My iron board cover was so worn out I had to do something. But with online and high street products expensive and not that exciting, I thought I’d just do it myself again :-) At least I get to pick the fabric! So I give you here a step by step how-to in case you want to try the same…

Lay your ironing board on the fabric you have chosen.

Draw around the ironing board, about 10cm away from the edge. (blue line)

Cut out the fabric along the line you just drew.

Put together iron cover and bias tape to be face to face. Fold 1cm of bias tape to start. See the below photo for Zoom on the condition at tape start.

Then, sew around the iron board cover with about 0.5cm seam allowance. Check out below picture to see how to finish (red circle area).

Iron press the binding away from the fabric (red arrows direction) as shown on the above photo.

Then iron press it towards the wrong side of the fabric.

Iron press with about 1 to 2 mm inside as shown above (green arrow)

Then, iron press around the iron cover about 4 to 5mm from the edge. Below picture is a Zoom of it.

Pin the binding to the fabric as shown, and then top-stitch approximately 1 to 2mm from the folded edge.

Using your bodkin, feed an elastic or string (I used  an elastic here) into the tube. Start threading it through, push and pull with your hand until it comes out the other side. Remove your old cover and fit the new cover over the board! The below photo shows you the view from under your table.

When the cover is fitted well, you can tighten it up by pulling on those loose ends (elastique or cord) and tying them together firmly in a knot. See the below picture.

Its done! You might enjoy a bit more your ironing time from tomorrow :)
