Sweet and Sour Meatballs (Amazu sauce)

Sweet and Sour Meatballs (Amazu sauce)

Ingredients

  • 500g minced pork
  • 1 carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 sticks of celery, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp shredded cheese
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds (optional)

For the seasoning

  • 1 egg
  • 50g bread crumb
  • 5 clove minced garlic
  • 1 1/2 tsp freshly-grated ginger
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1/3 tsp salt
  • a hint of pepper

For the sauce

  • 2 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 1/2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 3 tbsp water

For thickening the sauce

  • 1 tbsp katakuriko potato starch
  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  • 1. In a large bowl, combine minced pork, all vegetables (carrot, onion, celery) and cheese.
  • 2. Mix all seasoning ingredients together. Shape mixture into meatballs. (2 to 3 cm or more as you desire.)
  • 3. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Saute the meatballs until browned on all sides.
  • 4. In a separate small bowl, mix together all sauce ingredients. (not corn starch and water) Pour over the meatballs. Let it boil.
  • 5. Add the cornstarch diluted in water and cook until desired thickness is reached.
  • Serve hot:)
