Ingredients
- 250g yellow split peas - Rinsed and soaked in cold water for 1 to 2 hours
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 4 garlic cloves - finely chopped
- 25g ginger - finely chopped
- 1 onion - chopped
- 2 sticks celery - chopped
- 1 chopped tomato can - 400g
- 2 cup water
For the seasoning
- 20g butter
- 2 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp curry powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 1/2 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sea salt
Instructions
- 1. Drain the yellow split peas well and set aside.
- 2. Heat the oil in a large saucepan, add garlic, ginger, onion and celery and fry until softened.
- 3. Pour tomato can and water into it and bring to a boil. Add all seasoning ingredients and mix well.
- 4. Reduce the heat to low heat. Cover and cook until peas are tender for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
- Serve with hot steamed rice.
- Note: if you use the pressure cooker, it will be much quicker.
